Regular readers of the Cambo blog already know how inventive the company is when they created the ACTUS camera system. It provided options to add the latest digital camera bodies such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, Hasselblad, Fuji and a wide range of lens options.
Now there are options to add manual legacy lenses directly to the Hasselblad X1D and Fuji GFX50s.
The new HV-XCD is a manual lens adaptor to add the Hasselblad-C lenses to the X1D camera body using the electronic shutter function.
When using this lens adapter and lens combination its important that you disable the X1D lens shutter and select the electronic shutter function. This is available when using the latest firmware update v1.17.2 and you can read how to change this on page 92 of the Hasselblad X1D instruction manual.

Cambo is pleased to announce the new PCH (Precision Controlled Head) tripod head to complement the Actus range of technical cameras and DSLR systems.
Cambo PCH Tripod Head
The PCH features tilt, swing and rotation just the same as a ball head however with the addition of precision gears for fine tuned tilt and swing. The precision geared movements are self locking and available in any position of the head.
As with other Cambo heads the top plate rotates 360 degrees, however the new PCH has a full 360 degree rotation at the base enabling precise nodal capture.
The PCH features a quick release top and includes a 1/4” plate. This is the same QR plate that is supplied with the CBH-6, which has a safety lock preventing your camera loosening in the mount.
When the 1/4” QR mount is removed you can attach the Cambo ACTUS camera and Wide RS camera system. This is an ARCA style mount, and is useful for quickly attaching your camera system, balancing the ACTUS on the head and how close/away you need to position the camera when shooting in the studio or setting up copy stand and macro shots.
PCH Adjustment
An additional function that will benefit most photographers is the ability to adjust the controls to your own preferences. You can adjust the manual and geared movements to the way you want them to be.

Cambo have introduced a new lens option; Carl Zeiss Contax Distagon-35mm, for the Actus camera platform.
The lens is fitted into the Actus plate, the helical focussing mount is removed and a manual 15 blade aperture fitted for full control of the lens.

But wait, it’s not finished there… the lens is perfect for both mirrorless medium format cameras and DSLR’s. It’s especially suitable for Nikon bodies as this has the longest ff-distance due to the new barrel without the helical focus.
The test shot below was captured using the Actus GFX and Fuji GFX50s, with 5mm fall adjustment and horizontal shift enabling a final stitched image.

Antonio Saba began shooting professionally back in 1987 after receiving his university degree in advertising photography at the European Institute of design in Italy.
After working for more than 20 years with large format film cameras, in 2005 he converted to digital photography and began shooting with a variety of Nikon DSLRs.
How did you discover Medium format digital systems?
“In 2013 I moved my main business to Dubai, and last year I was introduced to the marvel of the Cambo WRS system from the fellows that I rent my gear from, HotColdStudio, Dubai.
I decided to purchase; a Cambo WRS5000, two Rodenstock lenses 28mm HR Digaron-S, 70mm HR Digaron-W and a Phase One IQ150 digital camera back.”
Why did you purchase the Cambo system?
“In the past I had been using Perspective Control lenses with my DLSR. They proved impossible to produce the results I wanted because the rear shift movement was too small, lens distortion is an issue and the lack of quality at the edge of the lenses was also a problem.
What I really love about the Cambo WRS5000 is the feeling to be back to my long time, missed, view camera, with very precise rear shift plus rise and fall movements. To add to this the lenses produce amazing quality images, they are sharp edge to edge. The Wide RS lens locking mount is precise, and all together the camera is extremely lightweight and portable – especially when compared to the old days using large format camera systems.”
What type of photography do you shoot with your digital system?
“I use the WRS5000 for architectural, landscape and lifestyle fine art photography. I mainly shoot advertising for the luxury hospitality industry with my latest commercial work being for The Peninsula Tokyo, The Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri, The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai and The Shangri-La Hotel Dubai.
Besides having lots of work in the pipeline I have recently completed images for my new coffee table book of fine art photography “Antonio Saba, Chasing Beauty.” This will be ready and printed early December 2017.”

New innovations are developed for a wide range of camera systems, mainly DSLR’s as the market for these products is huge. Various image stacking systems have been available for a number of years and only recently have we seen Phase One build a stacking solution into their medium format camera system, the Mamiya DF+.
However, if you use a technical camera platform with movement the stacking solution will be required to move the focus of the technical camera. This will have to be extremely accurate as any movement applied will require fine focus adjustments.
Why use stacking?
When shooting macro photography the depth of field produced from lenses is reduced even when the lens aperture is closed. A stacking solution captures a series of images that can be blended together to produce an image with greater depth of field.

By using a technical camera the depth of focus can be increased or you can adjust the plane of focus i.e. across the edge of the subject. Adding a stacking option gives you more depth across the focus plane. A truly powerful imaging combination.

Cognisys have developed a solution that is available for the Cambo Actus-XL and Ultima view camera systems. This option enables photographers to capture images while movement is applied when using the Fuji GFX50s or Hasselblad X1D medium format bodies.
Stackshot Controller
Adapting the solution is quite straightforward. An Adaptor bracket is supplied to attach to the Cambo camera, along with a flexible motor coupling and stepper motor. The Stackshot Controller plugs into the motor which can then be programmed to your requirements.

Cambo RPS-180 Levelling Unit is an attachment used for a copy stand that accepts an Arca Swiss rail or QR (Quick Release) mount. It enables you to level the camera when using the Cambo RPS column in 3 directions.

The RPS-180 comes complete with a 1/4” camera plate so you can mount a DSLR or Medium format camera system. This is known as a QR1/4 plate. When removed you can attach an Arca Swiss compatible rail direct to the RPS-180 mount.

Cambo cameras are Arca Swiss compatible. The ACTUS-REPRO and WRC-400 REPRO is normally used as the camera movement is locked especially for reprographics work. You can also use an Actus, Actus DB, Actus GFX and Actus XCD as they directly mount to the RPS-180.
If you already own one of the newer WIDE RS range of cameras; 1000, 1050, 1200, 1250, 5000, 5005 and AE the WRS-145 mounting block can be fitted and used with the RPS-180.

Cambo have announced a new camera mount for the Hasselblad X1D so that you can use Canon T/S lenses. This is now made possible as Hasselblad introduced the firmware upgrade enabling the Electronic shutter on the sensor and the lens shutter will then be disabled.
Cambo CA-XCD Lens Adapter
Since the launch of the Cambo Actus demands from photographers is to use existing lenses which have large image circles, such as the Canon 17mm and 24mm TS lenses. Both of these lenses have Tilt and Shift options, ideal for controlling the perspective of the shot.
Cambo CA-XCD Adapter
The CA-XCD adapter fits directly to the bayonet of the X1D camera body and the lens aperture is controlled electronically when dialling in the required f-stop. As there is no direct connection between lens and body, there is no data received; aperture, auto-focus or EXIF, from the lens.
Why make this lens adapter?
The Hasselblad X1D sensor measures 33x44mm and Canon lenses such as the 17mm T-SE and 24mm T-SE have very large image circles, they will cover the sensor size and will enable the photographer to apply movement.

Since launching the Actus in 2014 Cambo have expanded the camera platform to accept more lenses and camera bodies than any other modular technical camera manufacturer. The system has evolved from accepting DSLR and mirrorless cameras to medium format digital backs. With the recent introduction of the Fuji GFX and Hasselblad X1D, the photographer has even more flexibility to expand their Actus camera.
